  WESTFIELD SUPPORT NATIONAL AUTISTIC SOCIETY

The Westfield team set off at midday from the Westfield factory in full convoy on a journey to King Dick Tools in Birmingham. On the way there we had all sorts of onlookers giving the thumbs up and bikers nodding their heads in appreciation. The 2000s and the “little” 1600 performed extremely well, leaving the car and trailer behind.

We arrived at King Dick Tools around 1.30pm and picked up the new jacks that had recently been flown in from Germany.  Griff, the Managing Director, was there to ensure we were all ready for the long journey ahead of us.

Then from king dick tools we headed off to London in convoy, the 2000s and 1600 catching the attention of every car they go past.  As we stopped for fuel and refreshments the petrol station came to a standstill with people making numerous comments such as, what engine is in that? How fast is it?

As we got closer to London congestion started to get worse, we attracted a lot of attention the only way we know how, the usual showboating WAS necessary. When we got to our target location THE RACEWAY, which is the biggest indoor karting track in England, we were greeted and welcomed by Rick Parfitt Jr also on the list of faces was the professional stunt driver Russ Swift and a few others such as Johnny Herbert and Mcfly. The day was progressing fast and more and more celebrities arriving including the gorgeous Emma Noble.

We started to set up the WESTFIELD CHALLENGE which was hosted by Westfield’s own Adrian Halford.  Even Johnny Herbert listened intently to Adrian’s instructions. The challenge consisted of every team into the pits during the endurance race, removing both rear wheels of the Westfield and replacing them as fast as possible whilst wearing Westfield merchandise and safety equipment. The teams that couldn’t cope with the pressure had a backup, they called in the R.A.C at a price of £50 which would all go to the National Autistic Society.

It was quite amusing to watch the likes of Johnny Herbert, Vikki Butler Henderson and Lady Victoria Harvey and many more celebs struggle in the challenge. The Managing Director, Julian Turner, kept all the celebs busy and also getting lots of pictures in the process, while four of the Westfield staff were participating in the race, these faces were David and Steven Lane, Ian Turner and Daniel Clayton. They all put in an excellent performance coming 9th out of 21 teams, bearing in mind they were up against some of the best drivers in the world.

The event finished at 12.30am and we quickly packed up and header home.  Unfortunately we got stuck in London for an hour and a half while they were doing road works!!  We eventually arrived back at the factory no earlier than 4.30am.  For those that didn’t see the rain during the night, tropical storms would have been an understatement!!  The team worked very hard for this charity event and it was a pleasure to be a part of the ROAD TRIP.
